Most toilet problems are a quick fix

A toilet that runs, rocks, leaks or clogs is usually down to one worn part: a flapper, a fill valve, a wax ring or a blockage in the trap. A licensed plumber finds which one and replaces it, often in a single short visit.

A running toilet is easy to ignore, but it can waste a lot of water and push up your bill. A toilet that rocks or leaks at the base can rot the subfloor or stain the ceiling below, which matters most in condos and in upstairs bathrooms.

When a toilet is cracked, very old, or you are renovating, we install a new one, set it level on a fresh seal, and test it before we leave.

Toilet services in Toronto

Repairs and installations for standard, low-flow, dual-flush and wall-hung toilets.

Running toilet repair

A toilet that keeps refilling or hisses all night usually needs a new flapper or fill valve. We replace the worn parts and set the water level so it stops wasting water.

Clogged toilet repair

When plunging will not clear it, we clear the blockage with a toilet auger, and if something is stuck in the trap, we remove it. If clogs keep coming back, we check the drain line beyond the toilet.

Overflowing toilet

Turn the shut-off valve behind the toilet clockwise to stop the water, then call. We clear the blockage and check the fill valve so it does not happen again.

Leaking or rocking toilet

Water at the base or a toilet that moves usually means a failed wax ring or loose flange. We pull the toilet, replace the seal, fix the flange if needed and reset it solidly.

Toilet installation

New toilets for replacements and renovations, including low-flow, dual-flush and wall-hung models. Old toilet removed, new one set level and leak-tested.

Weak flush repair

A weak or incomplete flush can come from a low water level, a worn flapper, a partial clog or blocked rim jets. We find the cause and restore a full flush.

Toilets in Toronto homes and condos

In older Toronto homes, toilets often sit on original cast iron flanges and drain lines that have corroded over the decades, so a toilet that rocks may need the flange repaired, not just a new seal. In semis and row houses, a slow toilet can also point to a problem in the shared or main drain.

In condos, a leaking toilet can show up on the ceiling of the unit below before you notice anything in your own bathroom. Running toilets are one of the most common condo calls we get downtown, and they are usually a quick parts swap.

If your toilet runs constantly, our guide on why a toilet keeps running explains the usual causes and what you can check yourself.

When to call a plumber

  • The toilet keeps running or refills on its own
  • Plunging does not clear the clog, or clogs keep coming back
  • Water around the base, or a toilet that rocks
  • A sewer smell in the bathroom
  • A weak or incomplete flush
  • Cracks in the tank or bowl

A sewer smell with no visible leak is often a failed wax ring under the toilet, which lets sewer gas into the room. It is a simple fix.

What affects the cost

Every toilet job is quoted on site after we find the problem. You approve a flat price before work begins. The main factors are:

  • Which part has failed: flapper, fill valve, flush valve, seal or flange
  • Whether the toilet has to be pulled to clear a blockage or replace the seal
  • Flange or drain repairs under the toilet
  • For new toilets: the model, and whether you supply it or we do
  • Wall-hung toilets, which need in-wall carriers

There are no dispatch fees or overtime charges. See how our diagnostic and flat pricing works.

Toronto toilet questions

How do I unclog a toilet?

Use a flange plunger (the kind with an extra rubber sleeve), make a good seal over the drain opening, and push and pull firmly 10 to 15 times. If that does not work, stop flushing so it does not overflow. Do not use chemical drain cleaners in a toilet. If the clog stays, or something solid was flushed, call a plumber.

Why does my toilet keep running?

Usually because the flapper is worn and lets water leak into the bowl, or the fill valve is set too high or failing. Both are inexpensive parts that a plumber can replace quickly.

What should I do if my toilet is overflowing?

Turn the shut-off valve on the wall behind the toilet clockwise until the water stops. If you cannot find it or it will not turn, shut off the main water valve. Then call us.

Why is there water around the base of my toilet?

Most often the wax ring under the toilet has failed, or the toilet has worked loose. It can also be condensation or a leak from the tank. A failed seal needs the toilet pulled and reset with a new one.

How much does toilet installation cost in Toronto?

It depends on the toilet you choose, whether we supply it or you do, and whether the flange or supply line needs work. You get a flat price before any work starts. Our pricing page explains how the diagnostic works.

Can you install a toilet I bought myself?

Yes. We install toilets you supply, as well as ones we provide. We will check the model fits your rough-in measurement before the visit if you tell us what you bought.

Do you fix toilets in condos?

Yes. Tell us your building and unit when you book, and whether management needs notice or proof of insurance. We can provide proof of insurance.
